Tewolde Woldu Yohannes

His personal journey continues to inform his approach to advocacy — having experienced firsthand the uncertainty, complexity, and emotional weight of immigration processes.

Mr. Yohannes was born and raised in Eritrea. In 2002, he earned his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with Distinction from the University of Asmara. The following year, he came to Canada on a scholarship to pursue graduate studies and completed a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at Dalhousie University in Halifax in 2005.

Academic success was followed by a period of profound challenge. Entry into the legal profession proved difficult, and efforts to have his credentials recognized in Canada were met with significant barriers. During these years, he supported himself through physically demanding and service-oriented work while navigating the realities of settlement as a newcomer.

In 2009, Mr. Yohannes completed the Immigration Practitioner Program at Humber College and became a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant. Drawing from his lived experience, he committed his career to assisting individuals and families navigating Canada's immigration and refugee systems.

Over more than 15 years of consulting practice, Mr. Yohannes assisted thousands of applicants in obtaining permanent residency through a wide range of immigration pathways — chief among them private refugee sponsorship programs and family class sponsorships. He also brings over a decade of experience representing clients before the Immigration and Refugee Board in refugee claims and sponsorship appeals.

Committed to lifelong learning and professional excellence, Mr. Yohannes renewed his efforts to secure accreditation through the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. In 2022–2023, while continuing to operate his immigration practice, he completed the Foreign Trained Lawyers Program at the University of Calgary. After articling from 2024 to 2025, he was called to the Bar in Alberta in August 2025 and received approval from the Law Society of Alberta to establish Tewolde Woldu Yohannes Professional Corporation, operating as Tefancy Law.

He speaks Tigrinya and Amharic — languages widely spoken in Eritrea and Ethiopia — allowing him to serve members of those communities with cultural understanding and linguistic fluency.

Outside his legal practice, Mr. Yohannes values time with his family, early morning walks, and weekend cycling.
