Our Team
Tewolde Woldu Yohannes
Mr. Yohannes was born and raised in Eritrea. In 2002, he earned his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with Distinction from the University of Asmara. The following year, he came to Canada on a scholarship to pursue graduate studies and completed a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at Dalhousie University in Halifax in 2005. Academic success was followed by a period of profound challenge. Entry into the legal profession proved difficult, and efforts to have his credentials recognized in Canada were met with significant barriers. During these years, he supported himself through physically demanding and service-oriented work while navigating the realities of settlement as a newcomer.
In 2009, Mr. Yohannes completed the Immigration Practitioner Program at Humber College and became a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant. Drawing from his lived experience, he committed his career to assisting individuals and families navigating Canada’s immigration and refugee systems. From 2009 to 2026, working alongside a dedicated team, he built a practice recognized for meticulous preparation, principled advocacy, and effective representation.
Committed to lifelong learning and professional excellence, Mr. Yohannes renewed his efforts to secure accreditation through the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. Earlier attempts had been complicated by persecutory conditions in his country of origin and administrative barriers in Canada. In 2022–2023, while continuing to operate his immigration practice, he completed the Foreign Trained Lawyers Program at the University of Calgary. After articling from 2024 to 2025, he was called to the Bar in Alberta in August 2025. Shortly thereafter, he received approval from the Law Society of Alberta to establish Tewolde Woldu Yohannes Professional Corporation, operating as Tefancy Law.
His personal journey continues to inform his approach to advocacy. He has experienced firsthand the uncertainty, complexity, and emotional weight of immigration processes. Those experiences shape the care and seriousness he brings to every file. The resilience developed through adversity and years of hard work guide his commitment to serving clients with integrity, humility, and respect. He speaks Tigrinya and Amharic, languages widely spoken in Eritrea and Ethiopia, allowing him to serve members of those communities with cultural understanding and linguistic fluency.
Outside his legal practice, Mr. Yohannes values time with his family, early morning walks, and weekend cycling.
Hasitha Jayathilake
Hasitha Jayathilake brings a distinctive analytical perspective to immigration law, grounded in a scientific background. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary, earning a degree in Botany and Ecology with a minor in Anthropology. He also earned a Juris Doctor and a Master of Public Policy concurrently from the University of Calgary. He originally attended law school with an interest in environmental protection, and that interest later evolved into a focus on Administrative Law and the fairness of public decision making. This commitment to transparent and reasonable decision making is central to his work with government bodies, including IRCC.
Legal Focus
Hasitha advises clients across both family and economic streams of Canadian immigration. His work includes:
- Applications. Work permits, spousal sponsorships, humanitarian and compassionate applications, port of entry matters, and business related applications, among others.
- Complex matters. Reconsideration requests, temporary resident permits, judicial reviews, procedural fairness issues, and criminal inadmissibility matters.
He has worked on a wide range of individual and corporate immigration matters, including complex cases. He has also obtained multiple settlements and successfully challenged refusals at the Federal Court, leading to files being reopened and later approved.
Personal Interests
Outside the office, Hasitha spends time in the Canadian Rockies and regularly backpacks and hikes in Kananaskis and Banff. He also enjoys photography, aquarium and reef keeping, and mushroom cultivation, interests that combine creativity with personal passion.
